Lola Montejo believes painting is a manifestation of experience and memory. Her paintings are equally representational and abstract, reflecting her inner world and the environment around her. Montejo combines disparate materials and forms to allude to how memories are constructed, fade, or change over time. Montejo’s many countries of residence have influenced her aesthetic in layered ways: England, Spain, and New York, where she first experienced American abstraction and The New York School artists. She earned her MFA in Studio Arts from Azusa Pacific University in California, and has exhibit work in the US, Mexico, and Europe.
