Moberg Gallery celebrates their 20th anniversary this year and continues to expand their exhibits of international artists at premiere art events across the US, further solidifying its place as a contemporary art leader in the US and beyond.
We are thrilled to be on the beach this year to celebrate our two decades in business and contemporary art everywhere, with new works by Teo Nguyen, and Ruben Sanchez, who created works especially for SCOPE. If you are in the Miami area, please stop by to visit us and view these sculptures and large-scale paintings by two of our celebrated artists from Minnesota and Spain, respectively.
VIEW WORKS ON EXHIBIT AT SCOPE
RUBEN SANCHEZ
New works by Ruben Sanchez, created specifically for SCOPE Miami International Art Fair 2023, are astounding in their color and composition, with moments of mid-century modernism. Place continues to be important to artist Ruben Sanchez. Because environment + person = the human condition. He is interested in how the world understands us, and we, it. With signature emblematic icons found throughout his work, the materiality of anxiety and overcoming intrigues him, leading to exuberant paintings, sculptures, murals, and more. Sanchez notes that his artworks “sometimes act as mirrors, creating a colorful therapy, and filling the gallery with questions that ask us to think about the mysteries of our mind, the most powerful tool we have.” His “post-cubism flirts with abstraction,” and with black, white, and the boldest of colors, reminiscent of his home country, Spain, his work merges person and place into a musicality that catches every eye. There’s a story being told in each work.
Born and raised in Madrid, Ruben Sanchez comes from the worlds of graffiti and skateboarding. His painting palette is vibrant and evokes vivacious living, his sculptures are gorgeously rounded in striking monochrome, and his black and white works are contemporary cubist tableaus. Sanchez will be exhibiting new works in spray paint on canvas this fall, and he will be in attendance from Europe to meet and discuss his works. His artwork can be found in exhibits and collections throughout the world, including Denmark, France, Turkey, Spain, Bulgaria, Canada, the US, Greece, Hungary, and Jordan.
TEO NGUYEN
Teo Nguyen’s large-scale paintings range from abstraction to photorealistic landscapes. He likes to sketch on the prairie, and he aspires to create moments “when ordinary things become remarkable and beautiful.” Nguyen investigates the rural middle northern regions of the. Using acrylic paints on vellum mounted to aluminum, these are compositions full of sky, held up and together by narrow strips of land and spare architectural subjects. Open land offers a silence that the audience not only can hear but also feel viscerally. The horizon lines are low and therefore allow a meaningful expanse to confront its audience. Nature turns in these works, and with a palette that offers autumnal and winter scenes, the warm and cool colors are nuanced, tending to swap attributed qualities. He manages to imbue two-dimensional work with a 360-degree experience. His interest in recognizing the cultural differences between his country of origin, Vietnam, and his adoptive home, the US allows him to search for the meeting of two cultural approaches.
Nguyen studied art and design at De Anza College (Cupertino, CA); Fresno State University; and École des Beaux-Arts (Paris). Nguyen’s work has been exhibited at many galleries, and was included in a group exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. His paintings can be found in the permanent museum and corporate collections of: Minneapolis Institute of Art; Minnesota Museum of American Art; North Dakota Museum of Art; Minnesota History Center; and the Weisman Art Museum, General Mills Corporate Collection, and the Walker Art Center (all in Minneapolis, MN). Currently, his exhibit, Viet Nam Peace Project, is on view at the Sioux City Art Center, after showing at MIA in Minneapolis in 2022.
