Lynn Basa, born 1954, is a Chicago-based painter, public artist, and author, best know for her book, The Artist’s Guide to Public Art: How to Find and Win Commissions,  her permanent public art commissions include mosaics for the CTA Argyle StationUniversity of Wisconsin-Madison, and a new building for Salt Lake City’s Ballet West. Basa taught sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 2006 to 2012. Many of her works are encaustic on panel or paper, a medium which requires immediate thought and action, given the nature of working with hot beeswax. Basa appreciates this method for the resulting works that appear as if made effortlessly, while recognizing that within situations she creates, “the materials can respond randomly to [her] inadvertent attempts at control.”
