Join us for an evening of awareness through art, on Friday, January 13th, from 5pm – 7pm, as Moberg Gallery hosts a showing of Ukraine’22 Project, a new series of paintings by Scott Charles Ross. Ross’ goal is to travel the show—offering an experience to as many people as possible, while raising awareness about the ongoing war in Ukraine, as our news cycles speed ever forward with slowed coverage on this conflict. Ross is also interested in having the community learn more about the young Ukrainian exchange students who are stranded in the state of Iowa, due to the ravaging of their homes and displacement of their families to other countries.
There will be comments by artist, Scott Charles Ross; Suzan M. Pritchett, Drake Law School professor, with expertise in Immigration Law and International Human Rights; Ukrainian students; and Karen King-Fitzgerald, Regional Program Manager for World Link, a private non-profit exchange student program, headquartered in Kalona, Iowa. Refreshments and drinks will be served.

On February 24, 2022, the day Russia invaded Ukraine, Scott Charles Ross decided everyone needed to do their part to help Ukraine and its people. He immediately started sketching images he’d seen on online news outlets. His part would be to make art—to paint a series that would ultimately raise awareness, and potentially, funds.
He painted ten haunting black and white paintings, and one red and white painting, which comprise Ukraine ’22 Project. These are portraits of devastation, and figurative though literal absence and loss.
