Ruben Sanchez’s first solo show in the US, Human Nature, brings to Moberg Gallery a celebration of the human condition, embracing our imperfections but also our ability to overcome difficult situations. This is a new body of work, where post-cubism flirts with abstraction, and where color creates a dialogue with black and white, in a mix of styles.

These paintings, that sometimes act as mirrors, create a colorful therapy, filling the gallery with questions that ask us to think about the mysteries of our mind, the most powerful tool we have. This exhibit also wants to remind us that happiness can be found in the small everyday details rather than where we place unrealistic expectations and goals.

During this journey, many external factors will try to break our balance as depicted in some of the paintings; but the way we deal with these issues is key to maintaining stability in these unbalanced situations. You’ll find dynamic still-life paintings with elements in fragile balance or being scrambled by external elements that disrupt daily life. There are visual metaphors that challenge the viewer to decipher subjects, such as anxiety, forgiveness, overcoming, unconditional love, and self-esteem … but the viewer can also create their own interpretation and draw their own conclusions—that’s what makes art independently beautiful.

Born and raised in Madrid, Ruben Sanchez comes from the worlds of graffiti and skateboarding. His painting palette is vibrant and evokes vivacious living, his sculptures are gorgeously rounded in striking monochrome, and his black and white works are contemporary cubist tableaus. Sanchez will be exhibiting new works in spray paint on canvas this fall, and he will be in attendance from Europe to meet and discuss his works. His artwork can be found in exhibits and collections throughout the world, including Denmark, France, Turkey, Spain, Bulgaria, Canada, the US, Greece, Hungary, and Jordan.
